Basaltfiber roving

Roving is a bundle of threads of continuous basalt fiber. It is classified by  density , this is a certain quantity of threads in a bundle which is known as the entity “tex”. This stands for the weight of 1 km of roving in grams. 

The product is distributed in bobbins and can be used for fire blocking textile, insulation and as an application in composites as well as directly for manufacturing goods.

2. Strenght.

The specific strength of basalt fiber exceeds the strength of alloyed steel by a factor of 2,5 and the strength of glass fiber by a factor of 1,5. The specifications of the strenght of basalt fiber is represented in table 2.1 and table 2.2.

3. Chemical stability to the corrosive medium.

CBF has a high corrosive and chemical stability to the influence of a corrosive media: salt solutions, acid solutions and particularly alkali liquors. The specifications of the chemical stability of basalt fiber is represented in table 3.

4. Thermal stability.

Temperature range for a long application of CBF is 200 – 600°С. A short-term influence of the temperatures – up to 700°С. A one-time influence of temperatures – up to 1000°С. Heat-insulating items made from basalt fiber on the basis of inorganic binding agents may be used by temperatures up to 700°С. In addition there is a range of compositions on the basis of basalt rocks that have a higher thermal stability – up to 800°С.

5. High electric-insulating.

CBF has high electric-insulating characteristics, transparency for electromagnetic radiation. These properties allow CBF to be used for production of electric insulating materials as low-voltage (up to 250 V) so as high-voltage (500 V) equipments.
